Shadowing Opportunities
for young creatives
An opportunity for young creatives to experience the rehearsal and making process of an original play, in a hands-on approach.
We are currently rehearsing our play Fox & Sparrow, ahead of performing at the Landmark’s ‘Welcome Weekender’ festival. This is the second phase of developing Fox & Sparrow, so we’ll be digging into the detail, rehearsing new sections, new staging, and changes in the text.
We are opening this opportunity up to 6 young creatives based in North Devon. Positions to be offered on a first come, first served basis.
Shadowing Options:
-
Sit in a rehearsal:
We’re rehearsing from 26/08/24 to 12/09/24. We’re doing a mix of daytime and evening sessions, so we can find a session that works best with your schedule.
Best suited for creatives with interest in directing, stage management or acting.
-
Shadow our tech rehearsal (limited availability):
We have a tech rehearsal in the evening of 11/09/24. This will be a busy and time pressured session so we may not be able to spend much time with you, but there’ll be lots to observe from a technical and design perspective.
Best suited for creatives with interest in directing, stage management, lighting or sound design.
-
Shadow Nat designing, sourcing, and making costume:
During the week commencing 02/09/24, Nat will be designing, sourcing, and making costume. Nat will provide an insight into her process from character analysis through to creating a cohesive visual atmosphere for the show, and you are more than welcome to join her in her charity shops trips and costume-making sessions.
Best suited for creatives with an interest in directing, scenography and costume design.
-
Shadow Pete working on the sound design for the show:
This will be week commencing 26/08/2024 but dates and times are flexible. Pete’s main discipline is as a Sound Designer. The show has a rich soundscape at the centre of its world and is used to animate the space and throw tensions and adversities at our protagonists. Pete will provide an insight into his process from script analysis through to speaker placements, content, to placing sound within a space.
Best suited for creatives with an interest in directing and sound design.
How it works:
Firstly, we will arrange a relaxed chat with you, to flesh out any theatre-making aspects you are particularly interested in, and we will endeavour to find a session that best reflects those interests.
After your shadowing session, we will also have a debrief chat, to exchange feedback and answer any questions you might have.
This is not a paid opportunity.
Eligibility criteria:
We invite all young creatives, from all backgrounds to get in touch. No prior experience of theatre-making is required, just a passion for theatre and a zest to discover the beautiful, inspiring, messy, and fulfilling process of putting a show together.
